PSHE at Downsell
03 Dec 2019
At Downsell Primary School, we have recently introduced a new PSHE scheme called 1Decision. This scheme is worked through by years 1-6 and covers a wide range of different topics which include 'Keeping safe', 'Staying healthy', 'Being responsible', 'Feelings and emotions' and 'Computer safety'.
We have also introduced a scheme called 'Philosophy 4 children' (P4C) which focuses on philosophical enquiry and reflection. This is being embedded across the curriculum from EYFS up to KS2 and works well with our current creative curriculum. The P4C scheme encourages the children to discuss a variety of topics as well as expand their vocabulary through drama, role plays and debates.
Both of the above schemes are also being used to help the school gain our SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural) mark. To achieve this, we have to provide evidence of how well we work as a school, staff and community. Some of the ways we already do this include; stay-and-play with parents, school performances, providing after school clubs, entering competitions, going on a range of amazing trips and the list goes on.
